Community Education Forum

The Worcester Community Education Forum aims to widen community participation, identify and address community needs, and create long term network relationships which promote lifelong learning.

What do we do?

  • We are the community voice with regard to lifelong learning.
  • We encourage wider participation in the Community.
  • We identify areas of needs in Worcester
  • We build activities round these needs
  • We inform and implement national, regional, county and district strategies and agendas for promoting lifelong learning
  • We encourage group collaboration regarding provision of lifelong learning
  • We establish long term networks between various agencies in the area
  • We promote multi-agency collaborative funding applications and endorse bids that support the aims of the forum.

Who Can Join?

All organisations and individuals working in the field of adult and community learning (ACL)are invited to join and be represented in the Forum. This includes all users, providers and funders of ACL within the Worcester community.

How is it run?

The Forum does not belong to any single organisation. A chair person and vice chair person are elected once a year. Decision making is done by simple majority voting and each organisation present has one vote. Secretarial services are provided by Worcester Volunteer Centre with costs remunerated by a grant from Worcestershire Lifelong Learning Partnership (WLLP).

Meetings are held bi-monthly. Minutes, agendas and a quarterly newsletter are circulated to all members on the mailing list.

How do we contribute to county wide issues?

The Forum is a representative, information sharing group. We will not assume that people attending have delegated powers to make decisions for and on behalf of their organisations. Nevertheless we are recognised by WLLP as the district element in a county-wide hierarchy and our opinion will be sought regarding :
  • regional and national strategies
  • recommendations about allocation of WLLP grants in Worcester
  • recommendations about inter-agency collaborative funding bids
We are also represented in the Learning News magazine which is distributed county wide by WLLP. Each network group within Worcestershire has a page in this magazine which highlights what is happening in their area.

Monetary issues

The Forum has no money or bank account of its own. We do, however advise members of funding opportunities when they arise. We also make recommendations to the WLLP about grants to projects running in Worcester and discuss bids to regional, national and European funders. There is no fee to join the forum. If you feel that your organisation would benefit from membership and in turn be able to contribute to the running of the Forum we would like to hear from you.
